Current Obsession, Recent Events and Burkins the sailor

Hi Everyone and thanks for stopping by my blog. It's been a busy time for me recently, not least because, as an Auditor at UK Greetings Card company Card Factory this particular time of year is very hectic. We actually start preparing for Christmas in June. This is a bit of a bad thing if, like me, you don't need much persuading to get excited for the season. I've been humming christmas tunes since August, much to the dismay of my fiance! It's also now becoming a busy period for me at home as well, due to a much-welcomed surprise last Wednesday (2nd December) I mentioned in an earlier blog entry that I had entered Vanda Inman's Write Space competition in June, and that I had fared particularly badly with my entry. Well, when I opened my inbox on Wednesday who should I have an email from but Vanda Inman herself. She was inviting me to enter a new Write Space competition ending this January, to write a 1500 word short story based on the theme of 'Lost Love.&#

Current Projects

Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. I have a confession to make: I've not really made very much effort with finding new projects to do. I entered the Write Space competition hosted by Vanda Inman in the summer, and got a critique. Unfortunately this critique was not as flattering at first sight as it could have been, and I felt somewhat deflated. However on further inspection the critique had several good points. For example, I had started off well, but ended rather poorly. I feel that this had a lot to do with the word limit being a mere thousand. That sounds like a lot, but is actually a pitiful amount of words to restrict your story to! This is an excuse as opposed to a reason, but I have always struggled with the concept of condensing my plot into a set word count. Obviously I am destined to write bigger things, like novels! Anyway, I would like to extend my thanks to Vanda Inman for her constructive criticism, and I hope that I can learn from it and maybe

Hello Everybody!

Hello, Thank you for coming to visit my nice new blog. I've never done this before, and I'm not sure how this will go, but for now let's start at the beginning - why I am here and why I am writing this blog. Since being about six, I have wanted to be a writer. I fell in love with reading very quickly and have had a very strong passion for the written word ever since. It's a great feeling and I would love it if I could make somebody else feel the same way. That is the primary reason (or so I like to tell people) that I want to become a writer. Of course, making heaps of money would also be welcome, and that's probably another reason. For years I just sat around and "hoped" that I'd become a writer. True this wasn't particularly constructive, but when you're six years old and far too shy to go about asking people about how to become a writer, it's about all you can do. But then at the age of fourteen the wonders of the internet introduced me
